Northbrook Met is a multi-site College and all campuses have free staff parking and are also close to bus and rail services.
Below are some of the benefits the College has put in place to help with your general wellbeing.
Staff at the College automatically become members of the Teachers Pension Scheme or Local Government Pension Schemes, depending on their role. Staff contributions are between 5% and 11% depending on the role and the salary. The College contributes in excess of 16% for Teachers and 18% for Support Staff salaries.
Holiday entitlements for staff vary up to 22 days for Support staff and up to 40 days for Academic staff (plus bank holidays). Normally 3 closure days are reserved for the Christmas closure period. For Support staff there is an annual increment of 1 day each year up to a maximum of 27 days.
Staff can also join various salary sacrifice schemes to enable discounted purchases of cycle to work or childcare vouchers.
All Campuses have staff and student refectories providing a wide range of hot and cold meals, snacks and drinks at inexpensive prices. At Broadwater the refectory is situated in a brand new modern facility.
The lively student training cafe at West Durrington is open for morning coffee, homemade cakes and savoury items. At lunch you can enjoy a bistro style menu.
The Arundel Restaurant
Our fantastic student training restaurant provides top dining at low prices located at the West Durrington site with both lunch and dinner options available as well as specialist and themed events. This facility is open to staff and members of the public and has an enviable local reputation.
LRC (Learning Resource Centre)
Staff have full access to 3 Libraries and Learning Resource centres, each comprehensively stocked with a wide range of books, newspapers, magazines and DVDs and e-books. The College also has 6 drop-in Flexible Learning Areas in the Creative Arts.
Allure Hair and Beauty@Northbrook
Pampering opportunities at fantastic prices provided by our Students under close supervision at our hair and beauty salon based at the Broadwater site. A wide range of treatments are on offer from manicures to hair styling and colouring to Indian Head Massage, waxing and reflexology.
Northbrook Met Theatre
The Northbrook Met Theatre stages over 30 shows a year, ranging from innovative drama and dance to exciting musicals and rock concerts. The Theatre is a training venue for performers, technicians and production students and is the focal facility for the Southern Theatre Arts Centre. There is a licensed Bar which is open for all performances.
Trade Union Membership
The following unions are recognised at Northbrook Met, UCU, UNISON, AMiE, ATL.
The Staff Voice Committee meets termly and there is a monthly staff magazine/newletter called Fusion.
Annual Teaching Awards
Academic staff can be nominated by learners, receiving recognition for outstanding teaching by winning an Annual Teaching Award.
Sustainability/Environmentally Friendly Policies
Discounts on bicycle hire/purchase through benefits package. All waste collected is processed through a fully automated materials recovery facility to remove all recyclable materials.
All staff are encouraged to support the College's nominated charity of the year and participate in various fund-raising events.
All campuses can arrange for prayer room facilities to be made available.
All staff are given an email address, a computer login and access to the staff intranet via an up to date PC or MAC staff computer. Staff can also participate in the Staff IT Forum.
Health & Family Life Benefits
Northbrook Met is pleased to be able to offer its employees a wide range of facilities/services which help to provide a stimulating and healthy environment. Also family life is often demanding and getting the right work-life balance can be a challenge. Several schemes and benefits are offered by the College to help employees achieve this balance.
Occupational Health and Counselling
Staff have access to confidential Occupational Health facilities and support.
A Staff Gym is located at the Broadwater site. Staff can also take advantage of Corporate Membership rates at Worthing Leisure Fit4.
In addition to our generous sick pay scheme, we offer support through occupational health. Staff are also able to gain reimbursement for the cost of eye-site tests and help towards the cost of purchasing glasses.
Qualifies first aiders are situated throughout the College. First Aid training is encouraged for all staff.

Hours of work
Full time employees work 37 hours a week. Flexible working, including term-time only and part-time work are common arrangements within the College. Northbrook Met has a flexible working policy so that staff with caring responsibilities can potentially balance their personal and professional lives.
Staff are entitled to compassionate leave in cases of bereavement in the immediate family and to short-term unpaid leave in cases of emergency.
Continuing Professional Development
All staff are expected to participate in regular CPD events, development opportunities include:
- Induction programme to aid a smooth transition into a new role and environment
- Mentored probationary periods, providing guidance, support and advice from experienced staff members
- Appraisal Scheme empowering individuals to be responsible for establishing targets, managing workloads and planning personal development, in conjunction with line management support
- Dedicated CPD training days for all staff to take time out of the job for training and development - including initial Teacher Training (PTLLs)
- Access to Northbrook’s in-house CPD programmes for employees including mandatory training in Safeguarding, Equality & Diversity, Health & Safety and Behaviour Policy
- Sabbatical leave is available at the discretion of the department and Executive Team to support academic career development
- Staff can ‘in-fill’ on adult education leisure or business development courses for a discounted rate
